Choosing the right equipment and materials
Define the subject
A small detailed object and a large mechanical assembly present different scanning problems. Check the manufacturer’s recommended object size and working distance before comparing headline accuracy. Glossy, dark or transparent surfaces can need preparation, and thin edges or recesses may be difficult to capture. Ask about your actual subject if the listed examples do not establish that the scanner is suitable.
Compare the whole workflow
Accuracy, point spacing and scan speed describe different things. Read the units and test conditions for each published figure, and avoid treating one number as a guarantee of the finished mesh. Check the required computer, connection and software before ordering. Mesh capture, cleanup and conversion to editable CAD are separate stages; a scan does not automatically produce a parametric engineering model.
Check the package
Standard, premium and other package names do not have a universal meaning across scanner models. Compare the supplied turntable, cables, markers and other accessories against the listing. Choose a package because its contents support your workflow, not because its name suggests better accuracy. The package selector shows the price and availability for the chosen version, and its photographs can differ from the main product gallery.
