Choosing the right equipment and materials
Choose properties before colour
Consider heat, loading, moisture and outdoor exposure before choosing a polymer. PLA, PETG and engineering blends do not share the same service conditions. A visual prototype and a working bracket can therefore need different materials even when they look similar. Use the technical information for the particular blend; a broad polymer name does not establish every mechanical or environmental property.
Check the machine and nozzle
Confirm filament diameter and the manufacturer’s temperature and build-surface guidance against your printer. Some filled materials require a suitable wear-resistant nozzle, while others need careful drying or an enclosure. Check these requirements on the specific product rather than assuming all spools from a brand behave alike. Verify spool fit and the intended feed path if your setup uses an automatic material system.
Store and prepare consistently
Keep material identified and protected according to its storage instructions. Moisture, contamination and changed settings can make repeat prints less predictable. Dry only at temperatures and durations supported by the material and dryer documentation. Record the profile used for a successful job, including any material-specific changes. Compare spool mass as well as the displayed price when estimating how much material your project needs.
