Prusament PC Space Grade Black 850g (NFC). Prusament PC Space Grade Black is a material developed for the space industry and particle physics applications. Material: PC.
Prusament PC Space Grade Black is a material developed for the space industry and particle physics applications. Its main advantages are its ESD-safe properties and very low outgassing. Plus, its affordable price and ease of printing on common desktop printers make it something unique in this industry. Due to its excellent ESD properties and compatibility with desktop 3D printers, it’s suitable not only for parts exposed to outer space but also for advanced personal projects, such as housings for electronic devices and more.
PC Space Grade Black offers a route to prototyping ESD-sensitive components on compatible desktop Prusa printers. It avoids the specialised high-temperature equipment needed for some PEEK, PEKK and PEI applications. Check the printing setup and test data before specifying it for a component.
Electrostatic dissipation is relevant to space hardware and electronic enclosures. Prusa reports a volume resistivity of 2.2 × 10⁴ Ω·m and surface resistivity of 6 × 10⁷ Ω/sq for printed PC Space Grade Black samples, without annealing or sanding. These are material test results; assess the finished component against its application requirements.
Polymers can release gases under vacuum, affecting nearby electronics, optics and sensors as well as the part itself. Prusa developed this polycarbonate formulation to meet the European Space Agency outgassing requirements described in its test documentation. Review that documentation when assessing suitability for a specific environment.
TML (Total Mass Loss): The mass loss is represented as a percentage. The ESA limit is 1%; Prusament PC Space Grade Black achieved 0.25%.
CVCM (Collected Volatile Condensable Material): The limit stated by ESA is less than 0.1 %; the Prusament PC Space Grade Black reached a perfect 0.00 %.
RML (Recovered Mass Loss): The maximum limit stated by ESA is 1.0 %; the Prusament PC Space Grade Black reached 0.12 %.
The manufacturer announcement and Aerospace & Advanced Composites GmbH test report describe the test methods and results.
Prusa and TRL Space used a finite-element simulation of a single-unit CubeSat to define minimum material targets: 70 MPa tensile strength, 2 GPa tensile modulus, 10 MPa interlayer adhesion and 100 °C heat-deflection temperature.
Prusa reports that the tested PC Space Grade Black samples exceeded those targets, with the following results:
Exceeding these values (together with outgassing and ESD properties) makes the filament a strong candidate as an affordable material suitable for future CubeSat production. More details about mechanical properties can be found in the Technical Datasheet.
Prusament PC Space Grade Black can be printed on common desktop 3D printers, just like regular polycarbonates. The filament shows little to no warping. Models as large as 200x200 mm can be safely printed on Prusa 3D printers without any issues.
Supported 3D printer profiles: Prusa Core One, MK4S, XL, Prusa Pro HT90 (3rd party 3D printers may be used as well)
Dry the filament for 4–6 hours at 90 °C and keep it in a drybox during printing, following Prusa's material guidance. Moisture control matters for dimensional accuracy, mechanical performance and outgassing behaviour.
Check Prusa's material table and print-surface preparation instructions before starting.
Prusament filaments are wound on a redesigned spool that introduces several improvements for an even better printing experience, starting in October 2025. The new spool features a simple locking mechanism that makes disassembly quick and easy, allowing effortless refills. It also stays secure during filament drying, even at higher temperatures. And with its slimmer dimensions, the spool ensures compatibility with a wide range of multi-color and multi-material printing systems.
Every new Prusament spool now comes with a fully rewritable NFC tag powered by the OpenPrintTag standard. It’s designed to work across brands and ecosystems. It is free to use, free to extend, and open for anyone to build upon. Most importantly, it works entirely offline. All essential data is stored directly on the tag. Your printer can recognize the spool instantly, with no dependence on cloud services or vendor lock-ins. The OpenPrintTag attached to your Prusament spool contains essential data about the material and can be read with the Prusa mobile app.

Carbon additives make this filament abrasive, so a hardened nozzle is required. Follow the manufacturer guidance on ventilation, active filtration and protective equipment when sanding. Spool records include diameter consistency, weight, length, ovality and standard deviation; Prusa Connect can record print progress and telemetry.
Further setup guidance is available in Prusa's material table and technical articles.
Prusament PC Space Grade Black was developed in cooperation with the Czech space company TRL Space. Based in Brno, this company offers complete turnkey space missions. This includes everything from the initial draft to a launch into orbit to the analysis of satellite data. TRL Space cooperates with the European Space Agency and other global organizations in this field. It connects leading scientists, engineers, and visionaries from around the world and develops its own technologies for missions to both Earth orbit and the moon. TRL Space is a part of TRL Group - a dynamic group of technological companies supplying advanced technologies worldwide. The TRL Group includes companies like TRL Drones, Zaitra, Corac Engineering, and MecMa.
